Live In The Moment

Image
Living in the moment is not always easy. Sometimes our thoughts are overwhelmed by regrets about past events or anxiety about the future, which can make it hard to enjoy the present. If you are having a hard time living in the moment, there are some simple strategies that may help. There are little things that you can do throughout your day, such as creating a mindfulness cue, learning to meditate, and performing random acts of kindness. The truth is that every moment is a 'NOW' moment. Worrying about going to work tomorrow or needing to go to bed earlier or later in the day defeats the purpose of living in the moment. When it is time to go to bed, you'll handle it then, and when it is time to go to work, you'll also handle that then. But right now, the only moment you have to maximize is NOW .  Possibly because you miss those happier moments and wish you could re-live them. Just relax and tell yourself that you should focus on the present instead of dwell on the past...

Aspire To Inspire

Image
I ran across this slogan, “Aspire to inspire before you expire” today whilst looking for encouragement images. Immediately the slogan catches my eyes, then I went into a pause as I reflect on my journey to this point n my life. That slogan is somewhat similar to to quote, “Life is not a dress rehearsal.” Where we have to make the full use of each moment that we are blessed with. I choose to share this with you today because, we are not just here live out our life until our time come to leave earth. We all have a purpose here, so why not Aspire To Inspire Before You Expire. What does it mean to aspire? Well, to aspire is where you seek ambitiously for something of great value. Whenever you begin the process of aspiring for something, the thing you are seeking then become personal. In fact, when you personalized your goal, you and your goal is not any longer separate. Now, let’s look at Inspire. Believe it or not, both you and I have to potential to inspire someone any given d...

The Sun Will Rise

Image
I chose “the sun will rise, and we will try again” as my motto because I think it’s something we, as humans, can all relate to. The phrase is a lyric from one of my favourite songs, and what it means is that tomorrow is always a new day, and we all have a chance at a new beginning. Yesterday’s sadness doesn’t have to carry into today; the sunsets on the bad and rises with hope for a better day. I tell myself this when I have a day that is personally hard or frustrating, and it reminds me to live for the future.

My Worst Flaw

Image
I spend a reasonable amount of time talking about how awesome I am (I do really good job of it), or, barring that, talking about how awesome my friends are (one of my strengths). So I spend a lot of time focusing on positivity (please feel free to contact me for tips on focusing on positivity, I sort of rock at it), which is important, because the world is hellbent on keeping me down. I talk about how wonderful I am because sometimes I am the only person doing so, and my voice is just as important to hear as everyone else’s (David Sedaris once told me I have a great voice). But it’s important to not lose sight of things I actually need t o work on. I like to say I feel confident and happy with myself 87% of the time, a historic high. But that confidence can bar me from focusing on stuff I have to work on, of which there is   plenty . I’m good at a lot of things, but here’s what I want to be good at next: knowing on what I’m   not   good at, and what I need to improve...

Lucid Dreams

Image
Lucid dreaming happens when you’re aware that you’re dreaming. You’re able to recognize your thoughts and emotions as the dream happens. Sometimes, you can control the  lucid dream . You may be able to change the people, environment, or storyline. This type of dream of control could potentially  reduce nightmares and anxiety . You’re aware that the events flashing through   your brain  aren’t really happening. But the dream feels vivid and real. You may even be able to control how the action unfolds, as if you’re directing a movie in your  sleep . Studies suggest that about half of people may have had at least one lucid dream. But they probably don’t happen often, usually only a handful of times in a year.

Dear Black Child

Image
Dear black child?  I want to remind you of how the dark sky complements the moon and the stars so beautifully at night. When the rays fall and the darkness begins to take up the sky, it is a great time to lay so peacefully on your black pillow and catch up with your favourite series. Do you remember that black fur coat you preferred over the purple and the white? How cool it was to jot your notes down with your sharp black pencil? So, I marvel at how profoundly you embrace the colour of your skin in its material form until you are reminded that the colour of your favourite black fur coat matches that of your melanin pigment. You se e, that store that stopped stocking your concealer shade type is not your favourite store anymore and that is a good thing. Right there is an opportunity for entrepreneurship; stock it for us you bright lucky child! Dear black child, you are enough, you have enough and your crown is enough. I hope to see you back on the runway flaunting your rich skin. I...

Stop Body Shaming

Image
Body shaming is one of the biggest problems in today’s generation. Society doesn't just find humour in degrading a woman's body; they also find humour  in degrading a man's body. Body shaming has become a problem for both genders. People take their own insecurities and aim them at other people to make themselves feel better about their own body. Body shaming, while common in both genders, is especially harmful to women. Ariana Grande received a comment after being compared to Ariel Winter. “Curves are sexy sticks aren't,” the comment said. Ariana then fought back basically saying how in no way is this okay. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Jonah Hill have also been victims of body shaming by many people throughout the Internet. Comments like these are why both guys and girls have such low self-esteem. Body shaming is causing teens nowadays to be insecure.

Why do we shave?

Image
In Missy Elliott’s song “Work It,” she sings about the importance of shaving her pubic hair in order to be with her significant other. This and other popular songs bring up the societal pressure to shave. With “No Shave November” in full force, I ask the question: Why is it that women, and men, are pressured into shaving?   Historically, shaving was simply more hygienic. Lice where rampant and the ability to shower was rare. Alexander the Great told his soldiers to shave because it was easier to fight and avoid beard grabbing. Men who did not shave were considered barbarian. In some regions of the world, however, such as ancient Rome, having no body hair was considered disgusting and odd. On the other hand, women in Western society have become accustomed to shaving at all times of the year. Women who do not shave feel ashamed to wear shorts or tank tops. This practice of shaving feels outdated. We all have hair, and shaving takes up time that could be used in better ways.

Self LOVE

Image
What Do We Mean When We Say “Self-Love?” Therapists like myself spend a lot of time talking about self-love. But if you’re like many of my patients, you might not know what self-love means exactly.  Many people mistakenly believe that self-love is the same as narcissism, or having a big ego. It’s not.  So, what do we mean when we say “self-love”? Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. Self-love means not settling for less than you deserve. Loving yourself doesn’t mean you think you’re the smartest, most talented, and most beautiful person in the world. Instead, when you love yourself you accept your so-called weaknesses, appreciate these so-called shortcomings as something that makes you who you are. When you love yourself you have compassion for yourself. You take care of yourself like you’d take care of a friend in distress. You trea...

What your intuitions say

Image
Our intuition can be our greatest guide.  Our intuition is a feeling or energy that we feel deep inside that connects us not only to our truth, but to a Higher Truth as well.  It’s our own personal GPS. However, often times, instead of following our intuition to make life decisions, we follow our ego and make decisions out of fear and anxiety. And this leads to a life of stress, disconnection, and discontentment. Thankfully though, your intuition is strong and it’s constantly communicating with you trying to lead you on the right path; all you have to do is slow down and pay attention. So if you’re wondering if there is anything your intuition is trying to tell you, here is how to know: 1.  A specific desire or dream of yours keeps resurfacing over and over again. We have many desires and dreams; some based in ego and some just for quick gratification; however, if a desire keeps coming back over and over again even when the initial hype is over, and if y...

Smile, Its Healthy!

Image
‘Smile! What’s the use of crying? You’ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.’  Beautiful, right? Laughing is healthy, they say, but why? For many reasons, actually! SMILING IS HEALTHY PHYSICALLY When you smile/laugh (the louder, the better) your brain releases a chemical called endorphin. This is a natural painkiller and has a soothing effect, which lowers blood pressure. Laughing also strengthens your blood vessels as well as increases the blood flow, so it’s very good for your heart! IT STRENGTHENS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM Furthermore, your immune system is strengthened during laughing. Your body produces so called natural killer cells. This type of cell is comparable to  M-O of the movie Wall-E , it scans every cell and destroys the ‘bad guys’ like tumour cells. AND GETS RID OF STRESS HORMONES During a good laughing fit, antibodies are produced, that get rid of stress hormones. So laughing is seriously stress reducing! (In the clip below that fact is demonstrat...

Telepathy

Image
Telepathy Is Real! How do we transmit information from one person to another? (Inside Science) -- Now, I don’t want to alarm anyone, but telepathy, the act of transferring thoughts into someone else’s head is now real. As in, published-in-academic-papers real. People have now telepathically communicated with each other, monkeys have solved problems as a connected hive mind, and humans have even been given telepathic control of a rat. So, how exactly did we do it? The brain transmits messages as electrical signals through nerves. But we can’t just connect everyone’s heads through a giant web of nerves -- even if we could, it would be impractical. But  we can read the electrical activity from brain cells with electronic devices. Then transmit the signal, like we do with  the internet, and turn it back into brain cell activity at the other end.   Who else think Telepathy is interesting?💁

How to practice self-hypnosis Interested in reaping the many rewards that come from a regular self hypnosis practice, but not quite sure how to hypnotize yourself? Got good news for you! Self hypnosis is a lot easier to learn than you might think (it's actually very similar to meditation). Life Education

Image
Sex Ed For Everyone Sex education is the provision of information about bodily development, sex, sexuality, and relationships, along with skills-building to help young people communicate about and make informed decisions regarding sex and their sexual health. Sex education should occur throughout a student's grade levels, with information appropriate  to student's development and cultural background. It should include information about puberty and reproduction, abstinence, contraception and condoms, relationships, sexual violence prevention, body image, gender identity and sexual orientation. It should be taught by trained teachers. Sex education should be informed by evidence of what works best to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, but it should also respect young people's right to complete and honest information. Sex education should treat sexual development as a normal, natural part of human development.
